Greek Director/Writer/Producer wins Best Picture Golden Globe in George Clooney's "The Decendants"
Director/writer Alexander Payne (Papadopoulos in Omaha, Nebraska) wins the 2012 Best Picture Golden Globe for "The Decendants" starring George Clooney (who won the best actor Globe for the movie). Congratulations from CelebrateGreece.com and the Greek community at large. Bravo Giorgio! The Oscar winning director of Sideways (2004) gave CelebrateGreece.com an interview where we discussed everything from Greeks in the movie business to his favorite Greek dish, food that is! Alexander Payne's humor and humanity comes out in this funny interview with CelebrateGreece.com's Cynthia Daddona (also of RomancingTheTable.com). Payne's unique talent of portraying tragedy justaposed with comedy on movie screens has earned him accolades throughout Hollywood. Human triumphs and pitfalls is his specialty as portrayed in his movies Sideways, About Schmidt, and now "The Decendants". "The Decendants" co-star, Beau Bridges (brother to Jeff Bridges), was interviewed by CelebrateGreece.com recently where we talked about Greek food. Good luck to Alexander, Fox Searchlight (CEO Jim Gianopulos) and "The Decendants" at the Oscars.

South Sudanese round the Globe Vote for their freedom.
South Sudanese round the Globe Vote for their freedom.
Millions of registered Sudanese voters began casting ballots Sunday in southern Sudan's independence referendum, including thousands of registered voters in Nebraska and the surrounding area. There was a huge turnout at one of the voting stations at 45th and Fort streets in Omaha. Hundreds stood in line for hours to cast their vote. Southern Sudan has endured decades of internal strife and civil war with the country's north. The vote will decide whether to draw a border between the north, where mostly Arab and Muslim people live, and the south, populated mostly by blacks who are Christian or Animist. Those casting ballots in Omaha stressed the importance of independence. "We want our freedom, we are tired," said voter Zahara Savid. The weather didn't deter voters like 36-year-old Thomas Taban, who drove with a group from Fargo, North Dakota. Taban said he and the others drove through the night because they wanted to help make history by voting for south Sudan's independence. Simon Deng came from Kansas City to vote for separation because he wants to make sure there are no more war orphans known as the Lost Boys of Sudan. Omaha is one of only eight cities in the US designated as an official polling place for the Sudan election because of large populations of refugees. More than 3200 of the 8800 Sudanese who registered to vote in the United States are registered in Omaha. Voting will continue through Saturday. The referendum is part of a 2005 peace agreement that ended the ...

the wrestler, by bruce springsteen golden globe winner
the wrestler, by bruce springsteen golden globe winner
my best friend in high school, danny scheinis, is the biggest bruce springsteen fan i know. he used to play his records all the time. but, in the 80's i listened to nothing with guitars, fewer songs still with real drums or acoustic instruments of any kind. no, i loved synth pop. the cold precision of it, the buff and polish of it all. i had precisely zero appreciation for whatever it was that danny heard in the boss. danny used to go on and on about born to run and the river, but i think he loved nebraska most of all. he told me all about how it was made. recording a whole record on a four track in your home really appealed to me when i was 16. the very notion of hiding away barefoot in a home studio became a dream that followed me from 1985 to the present. i love the freedom of recording whenever i like. vocals at 2am? never a better time. hop up from a movie and sketch out some drum parts? why not. we are living in very, very good times to be a storyteller and even better times to be a musician. so now, 20 odd years on, i can't imagine my iPod without bruce on it, or tom waits or any number of artists whose music once seemed to strange to me. singers of songs for the downtrodden. songs with no buff or polish. plain and simple and completely captivating. their songs didn't change. my ears did. that always surprised me. last night i watched mickey rourke get up onstage and humbly accept an award for his incredible work in, "the wrestler". he thanked his pug dogs. good ...

Because she was born with a rare intestinal disorder, little Crista has struggled for almost all of her short life. After many long hospital stays, Crista's foster mother brought her to the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program (IRP) at The Nebraska Medical Center. It changed her life. The Nebraska Medical Center began IRP in 2000 to provide consultation, treatment and long-term follow up to adults and children with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome. Breaking News! 6-27-11 Nebraska Nuclear Plant Fort Calhoun SWAMPED as Flood Berm Collapses
A berm at a nuclear power plant in Fort Calhoun, Neb., collapsed early Sunday morning, allowing Missouri River flood waters to reach containment buildings and transformers and forcing the shutdown of electrical power. Now, backup generators are cooling the nuclear material at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station. Still the Cover up and blackout continues. AS they learned from TEPCO "lie lie lie" till you can lie any more then lie again. As long as you can pour tons of money to the lobbyist pockets you wont have to worry about the truth ever getting out to the American public. It seems like this has become the norm around the globe with Japan setting the example and America following along. according to reports, but the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission said cooling of the reactor and spent-fuel pool continued. The Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station 19 miles north of Omaha has been shut since early April for refueling. There's no flood water inside the plant, but water surrounded the auxiliary and containment buildings, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission said, according to the Associated Press. The plant's power supply was cut after water surrounded the main electrical transformers, the AP report said, but emergency generators powered the plant until an off-site power supply was connected Sunday afternoon.

Worlds Tallest Mohawk - Omaha NE
Worlds Tallest Mohawk - Omaha NE
Eric Hahn set the Guinness World Record for Tallest Mohawk in Omaha Nebraska on 11/14/2008. The Mohawk was done by two student stylists at Capitol School of Hairstyling. Eric did this not only for the World Record but for charity. His cut hair has been donated to Locks of Love and money from sponsored events went to Project Nightlights - both charities were children's charities. Notes: --Eric did not raise the Mohawk as a fashion statement and does not wear it around daily. --Only hair spray was used and allowed by the world record rules. --He had to do a lot of work to get the official paperwork done, sponsorship, and media for this event. If you have seen a taller Mohawk, good on ya, but Eric did what it took to get it in the books. And did it for charity - not as a fashion statement. --Eric is a guitarist in the rock/punk band The Filthy Few --This video has been broadcast all over the world on many news stations and featured on 3 Japanese television shows. --The Mohawk was raised for height, not looks.

BBC Radio - Steve Mapes Lincoln Nebraska - Shortwave Radio Broadcast
stevemapes.tripod.com Please excuse some of the liberal language contained in this broadcast. The terms used that may be offensive in some parts of the world are acceptable in many civilized societies around the globe. Steve Mapes in Lincoln Nebraska robbed the grave of a Silent Key Amateur Radio Operator. (ham radio) Steve Mapes claims to run a "business" called "Four Seasons Hauling" in Lincoln Nebraska. Steve Mapes is not a "Ham Operator". An elderly woman needed a desk and other light furniture hauled away since her husband just passed away a week earlier. Being that the woman was very poor, she told Steve Mapes she could only pay him to haul the things away in exchange for the recently passed man's "Ham Radio Gear". A kenwood TS-450, A vintage CW key, a tuner and some other gear. No microphone. This Ham Operator was a CW only man. (he only did morse code). When Steve Mapes was at the old woman's house hauling the stuff away, he noticed there were many papers in the desk. The old woman forgot to clean out her husband's desk. In the desk was the man's Ham License, Passport, Driver's License, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate and other crucial papers. Before Steve Mapes had the desk out of the house he noticed these papers. Steve Mapes told everyone "I seen the passport and shoved all the papers in to a separate trash bag." "When the old woman went upstairs I ran the bag with the papers out to my truck and came back and moved the stuff". Steve Mapes later bragged ...
